Balochistan Crisis - a history

 

   A brief view into the history of Balochistan let us know that Baloch nationalists movements started in the middle of 17^th century from the Khanate of Kalat. Later invasions of British in the region somehow managed the control over Baloch territories and set up a British primacy there. The tribal areas came under the direct administration of British Agent with some areas governed by local political agents as well. In the middle of the 20^th century an educated Baloch middle class came up with the idea of Independence from British rule. Finally the southwestern region of Balochistan became a part of Pakistan with the promises of Baloch autonomy over the region.

         Three out of four British governed princely states of Balochistan joined with Pakistan in 1947 but the Khan of the Kalat claimed independence and refused to come to terms with Pakistan. The Pakistan, however, formally annexed the area. The younger brother of the Khan of Kalat refused to lay down the arms and committed attacks on the army. Later the armed resistance against One Unit Policy accompanied with the attacks on security forces. The third wave of conflict emerged after the constitution of 1956 which reduced the provincial autonomy. At that time the federal government ordered the army to establish several bases in key areas of Balochistan. The Mengal and Bugti tribal areas covering 72000 km of land offered an armed resistance and attacked on rails, roads and envoys. Yahya Khan – abolished the one unit policy and granted Balochistan the status of fourth province of Pakistan. However, the unrest continued in 1970s culminating with the orders of a military operation in Balochistan in 1973.

آئی ایس آئی کے سابق سربراہ جرنل ضیاءالدین بٹ نے سابق آرمی چیف جرنل مشرف اور جرنل کیانی پر سنگین الزامات عائد کیے ہیں۔ معروف ہفت روزہ فیملی کے حالیہ شمارے میں شائع ہونے والے ایک انٹرویوکے مطابق انہوں نےکہا ہے کےجرنل مشرف کو ہر چیز میں’’کِک بیک‘‘ پہنچتا تھا۔انہوں نے کرنل ریٹائرڈ اسلم چیمہ اور دیگر متعدد جرنیلوں اور ان کے رشتہ داروں پر بھی کرپشن کے الزامات عائد کیے ہیں۔

یاد رہے جرنل ضیاءالدین بٹ پاک فوج کے ایسے سربراہ تھے جنہیں آرمی چیف بننے کے فوراً بعد قید کرلیا گیا تھا۔ جرنل بٹ نے آئی ایس آئی کے سابق سربراہ جرنل محمود کو بھی سنگین الزامات کا نشانہ بنایا ہے۔ جرنل بٹ نے کہا "جرنل محمود ابھی مولوی بن گیا ہے لیکن بہت کرپٹ آدمی ہے۔ وہ فوجی فرٹیلائزر میں چلا گیا اور سارے ٹھیکے اپنے بھائیوں کو دے دیے اور بہت پیسا کمایا۔جرنل ضیاءالدین بٹ نے اس بات پر بھی حیرت کا اظہار کیا کے جرنل شاید عزیز کوابھی تک بدعنوانی پرگرفتار کیوں نہیں کیا گیا۔وہ ارب پتی ہے ان کو پکڑنا تو بہت آسان ہے۔ "جرنل ضیاء نے شکوہ بھرے الفاظ میں کہا۔

تاہم جرنل ضیاءالدین نے موجودہ حالات میں کسی قسم کی فوجی مداخلت کے امکانات کو مکمل طورپر رد کردیا۔جرنل راحیل شریف بہت ذہین اور عقل مند جرنیل ہیں اور سیاست میں کوئی دلچسپی نہیں رکھتے۔ جرنل ضیاءالدین بٹ نے جرنل راحیل شریف کے لیے فیلڈ مارشل کے عہدے کی بھرپور سفارش بھی کی۔

 

 

Pakistan Politcs: Imran Khan and Power Rangers

MQM is no alien and PTI no Power rangers. It is an irony that Pakistan's clean men are being maligned under a new found political prodigy - Imran Khan. Hailed from an influential family, the Khan now sarcastically referred to as Niazi, his family name, is him self a product of status quo who used his family links and Pakistan's strong establishment to make his way to Pakistan's star-studded cricket team of the late 1970's. In politics, he is playing the same tactics in the changed times. He still feels that establishment can take him to the coveted top slot, his first attempt came when he tried to convince Pervez Musharraf to take him on board, next, last year he his dharna was outcome of a guarantor as Javed Hashmi blamed upon, but this time situation is more critical.

With the help of Rangers, now Imran Khan wants to clean Karachi of MQM. Unable to find a space in Pakistan's thriving political scene, the playboy cricketer turned politician is treading on a dangerous course.

MQM is a reality and Pakistan's mature political entity. PTI is yet to get clear of the tags of unwanted.

If Imran Khan has to win in Karachi, he must respect people of Karachi and their mandate as well.

Blasphemy Laws in Pakistan - what is wrong?

Another incident in uproar and then deep silence all around, horrific deaths continue to haunt Pakistan's hapless citizens. Problem with the country is not the religious zealot, it has always been the politicians and the corrupt bureaucrats . Pakistan's incumbent Prime Minister rose in politics only after he  used religion as the only criteria for his mass approval. A Kashmiri by cast, as Mr Nawaz Sharif claims, he has more often used the religious tools to settle personal scores. In his party's previous tenure in Lahore (His party, when ruling Punjab only serves Lahore and not the entire Punjab province) as the chief minister, when his party came in contention with the Governor Mr Salman Taseer, the foe was killed by his own security guard on charges of Blasphemy.

Mumtaz Qadri - the guard who killed Mr Taseer is living a lavish life in a jail in Punjab. Not only did he was not executed after the court order but the person while in jail also incited the jail staff and another person (a schizophrenic patient) was fired upon by a guard who later confessed that he was incited by Mumtaz Qadri. The government has refused to shift Qadri to some other jail and has also decided not to put him to solitary confinement.

Mumtaz Qadri is a strong disciple of Mr Tahir ul Qadri - a Canadian citizen who was financed and nurtured in his early days by MR Nawaz Sharif.

Even in the recent 2013 elections in Pakistan, Taliban had vehemently announced that   they would not allow anyone other than Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan to campaign for elections. Rallies of secular parties not using religion as their agenda were targeted by Taliban.

So how can you expect the government to punish who are charged with taking law into their hands?

 

Worst still, the West has always supported dictators to achieve their own agenda. These dictators also financed Religious groups to blackmail US and the UK with a purpose to draw more dollars from the West and get their regimes legitimized.

 

 

 

 

Only if the West can ask mr Nawaz Sharif to shift Mr Mumtaz Qadri to any jail outside Punjab? Or place him in solitary confinement will be the first step to save the future of minorities.

MCB Bank facing liquidity problems

MCB bank is owned by Mansha Group of Mian Muhammad Mansh who enjoys cordial relations with Pakistan's prime minister Nawaz Sharif. There are unconfirmed reports that the group has paid heavy amount to the government and as a result it is out of cash. The bank is now hold cash of its account holders by delaying payments. Say for instance it now takes 4 to 5 days to clear bank drafts insteasd of overnight clearance as is practiced by the other banks.

The bank has closed its ATMs without any announcement and warning to its consumers. Finding it opportune to solve its liquidity  problems the bank has decided to close down its ATM network on the protest of Long march which is held in Islamabad some 40 km away from some of its branches.

In Pakistan MCB Bank has stopped all its ATMs in Rawalpindi.

There is joke circulating through texts in Pakistan. 'A women who didn't know Monica was in her bed but knows Al Zawahiri is in Pakistan'. Ms  Clinton did everything she could to please India but could only ignite Indian ire.“She's overplaying her hand on Iran,” said Kanwal Sibal, former Indian foreign secretary. “Knowing the complexities in India and the political sensitivities involved, for her to publicly pressure India to reduce its oil purchases from Iran, I don't think it sits well with the larger political establishment in New Delhi. I don't think she's winning any arguments in favor of her case. On the contrary, she's causing a degree of resentment.”
From the outset, Clinton's visit was awkwardly timed. Apparently designed to encourage India to further reduce its oil imports from Iran, in compliance with US sanctions, it coincided with the visit of a trade delegation from Tehran.
However, Indian people are not with their government on Iran. How many times Iran had attacked a country in past compared with Israel. In Pakistan people are more furious that why Saudi Arabia is supporting and fueling bloodshed in Syria? 
This lady has little to convince Pakistanis after all every month scores of innocent people are killed in Pakistan through drone attacks. We are also facing bomb blasts only because of wrong US policies over the region.
India is not like Pakistan where dictators sell out the country in return for stay in power! India is asking for cash in terms of visible change on the model of Japan.
The worst part of the tour was that Clinton remained silent over increasing nuclear piles in India. Indias ever growing and dangerous posture is a matter of concern for all the countries in the region.

If you ask any Pakistani on the street if he is sure or confidant he can get justice in Pakistan, one can safely say few shall say yes. Some ten years i the office Pakistan's smartest judge is now confidant he can take on anyone... anyone. Two-in-one Pervez Musharraf or ... may be Asif Ali Zardari and Ashfaq Pervaiz Kiyani, one-by-one. But perhaps recent elections in Pakistan's Bar council of Supreme Court has vindicated when the lawyer community supporting the Justice Chaudhry lost miserably second time in succession. So what that means? All those who really understand the law are not happy with him or at least the ways. We wasted years in the case for asking the federal government to write a letter to Swiss courts asking to reopen the cases on the incumbent President.

What we got? Every citizen is asking? Had the Supreme Court made half of the effort in settling the cases of lesser political relevance people of Pakistan would have really felt a change. Only recently the Chief Justice forced the government to reduce prices of gas for the car owners only increase the consumption for the transport and today there is a sever shortage of gas in Pakistan for domestic use directly affecting poor people.
